The Dangers of Smoking
Smoking is injurious to health. This is not merely a statutory warning, but is a serious enough warning. It is being shunned world over due to its health hazard. Every time you take a puff, you risk your precious life in a way that is scary.
Health Hazards and Dangers of Smoking:
- Lung Cancer:
According to research almost 90% of those suffering from lung cancer can attribute it to the smoke that emanates from smoking or one that has been exposed to passive smoking. It is a life threatening problem, with the survival rate being very low. Smoking also is the cause of other forms of cancers. Oral cancer or some forms of throat cancer have been attributed to smoking.
- Emphysema:
This is another lung related problem that occurs due to smoking. The lungs are damaged to a point where they are not as elastic as they should be. Inhaling and exhaling which is a normal process becomes a tedious process. One constantly wheezes and coughs and has to gasp to get enough breath.
- Cardiac Problems:
Smoking reduces the blood flow in the arteries. This is a potential cause of a heart attack and other cardiac problems.
- High Blood Pressure:
Cigarette and other similar products contain nicotine. The nicotine therein enlarges the arteries and the blood vessels causing one to constantly suffer from high blood pressure. This almost becomes an omnipresent problem.
- Stroke:
Smoking often is the cause for high blood pressure which also typically increases the chances of stroke. It can be a life threatening problem as often it could lead to brain damage due to the lack of oxygen supply.
- Alzheimer’s Disease:
It has been seen that the rate of mental decline is five times faster for those who smoke rather than the non-smokers. Additionally, there may be other neurological problems as well.
- Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Auto-immune Diseases:
As nicotine is known to damage the auto immune system, this rare problem can be aggravated multiple times if you do run the risk of having it even in the smallest degree.
- Erectile Problems:
There are some problems that are specific to men. Too much smoking can cause erectile problems and can impair normal sex life.
- Smoking During Pregnancy:
Too much smoking during pregnancy can lead to problems during pregnancy. The growth rate of the babies can be affected as also they may have a low birth weight.
